George Benn Ray was born on 20 Apr 1882 at Windsor, Broome Co., NY. He married Olive Eliza Whitney, daughter of Frank Joel Whitney and Laura Jackson, on 12 Jun 1906 at Bronx, NY. He appeared on the census of 4 May 1910 at 169 Springfield Ave., Rutherford, Bergen Co., NJ; is listed as Geo. B. 28 born NY as were his parents, married three years; wife Olive E. 23, born MA, father Maine, mother, Indiana; and daughter, Laura E. 2, born NY. He appeared on the census of 17 Apr 1930 at Schoharie, Broome Co., NY; is listed as George B.53 born NY as were his parents, retired, was age 30 at his first marriage; wife, Olive, 45 born NY as were her parents, age 22 at marriage. He died on 2 Jun 1950 at Ridgewood, Bergen Co., NJ, at age 68. His Obituary: The Sunday News, 4 June 1950: George of 250 North Maple Ave., passed away at his home after a lingering illness, aged 68. He went into the electrical contracting business in 1908 in Rutherford, where he operated in that line for several years. Later he conducted an automobile agency in Paterson and Passaic. In 1924 he was transferred to Indianapolis as general agent for Paige automobiles covering the State of Indiana. Since 1932 Mr. Ray had been active in the Real Estate field, having offices in different sections of New York and other Northeastern States with offices at 55 West 42nd. Street, Manhattan. He became a resident of Ridgewood about 30 years ago. He was at one time a member of Masonic and Elks lodges of New Jersey. Services will be held at Van Emburgh Mortuary Chapel by the Rev. LeRoy J. Hess of the Upper Ridgewood Community Church. Death Certificate states George was 68 years 1 month 13 days old and had Carcinoma of the pancreas. Information supplied by Olive W.
