US Congressman. He was admitted to the bar in 1902 and commenced the practice of law in Bloomington, Illinois. From 1913 to 1917, he served as presiding judge of the Illinois Court of Claims and was a member of the State House of Representatives, 1921 to 1923. In 1933, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-third and Seventy-fourth Congresses, serving until 1937. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed his legal practice until his death.
