Richard "Dick" Olson, 72, of Canfield, OH and formerly of Hayward, died November 21, 2006, in Youngstown, Ohio.




Richard Glen Olson was born on May 2, 1934 in Hayward, WI, the son of Norman and Violet (Thompson) Olson. He graduated from Hayward High School in 1952 and served in the Wisconsin National Guard. He married Lory Eleanor Kramer on October 30, 1954, and they moved to Minneapolis.



In 1958 Dick joined the U.S. Army where he was an Avionics Equipment Maintenance Supervisor for over 15 years. His various assignments included Okinawa, Erial, New Jersey; Augusta and Fort Benning, Georgia; Fort Knox and Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, and Fort Huachuca, Arizona. He served two year-long tours of duty in Vietnam. In 1980 he retired from the Army and worked for two contractors at the Army airfield at Fort Huachuca for several years. He moved to Canfield, Ohio in June of 2006.



Dick loved hunting and fishing and the outdoors. He was very knowledgeable about history and geography. He was a wonderful father, husband, and friend.



He is survived by his four daughters, Sheryl (Mike) Raulin of Canfield, Ohio, Gayle Olson of Sierra Vista, Arizona, Tammy (Paul Caster) Olson of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Barbara Moody of Chester, Virginia; one grandson, Austin Moody; two brothers, Robert (Mae) Olson of Pahrump, Nevada, and Donald (Janene) Olson of Central Point, Oregon; a sister, Betty (Brent) Snodgrass of Naples, Florida; his devoted and brave dog, Pepper; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.



He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lory, and his sister, Shirley Jordan.



A funeral service will be held Thursday, November 30 at 2 p.m. at the Anderson-Nathan-Koerpel Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Hayward. Military rites will be accorded by the Spooner Detachment of the Wisconsin Military Funeral Honors Program.
