Appointed Minister to Switzerland in 1913 by President Woodrow Wilson.U.S. Diplomat and journalist. Educated at the University of Georgia, he first worked as a reporter for "The Augusta Chronicle," before being named assistant editor in 1877. In 1891, he founded "The Savannah Press" and continued as publisher until 1931. In 1913, he was appointed U.S. Ambassador to Switzerland by his boyhood friend, President Woodrow Wilson and served in that capacity until 1919. He authored such works as "Switzerland and The World War," and "Robert Toombs: Statesman, Speaker, Soldier, Sage."
