Footballer Ian Greaves made 67 appearances for Manchester United, winning a League Championship medal and an FA Cup runners-up medal between 1953 and 1960.The full-back was at the club when the Munich air disaster claimed the lives of eight of the Busby Babes,but was not part of the squad which boarded the flight.His replacement,Geoff Bent died in the tragedy that engulfed United when a place crashed on take-off at Munich Airport.He later played for Lincoln City and Oldham Athletic before quitting the game through injury. He then went into football management at Huddersfield and Bolton Wanderers,taking them both into the top tier of English football.He was a surprise appointment as the boss of Mansfield in February 1983 but led the club to promotion two years later and Freight Rover Trophy glory at Wembley in 1987.He also worked under Robert Maxwell at Oxford and later at Wolves before staring his six-year reign at Field Mill in 1983.
