Catherine was the daughter of John Lee and Margaret (Alexander) Ballard. She married Herman Duke Wooten in 1923 and they had two sons: Thomas Duke and John David.

(NOTE: Death Certificate has year of birth as 1903, but headstone has 1902, not sure which is correct but will use the date on headstone.)

Mrs. H.W. Wooten Taken By Death

Mrs. Herman W. Wooten died Saturday night at 6:30 o'clock at home, 278 North Lackey Street, after an illness of almost a year. She was the former Miss Mabel Ballard, daughter of the late John L. and Margaret Alexander Ballard of South Iredell. She was 45 years old.
Mrs. Wooten is survived by her husband and two sons, Duke Wooten of Rock Hill, S. C., and, John Wooten of the home, and a granddaughter, Patricia Anne Wooten of Rock Hill.
Also surviving are three brothers, Marvin Ballard of Statesville, Robert Ballard of Mount Ulla, and Jay Ballard of Mooresville; six sisters, Mrs. Glenn Kestler, Mrs. J. Q. White and Mrs. John Lawrence, all of Mooresville, Mrs. George Hudson and Mrs. Ralph Thompson of Statesville, and Mrs. J. R. Fiddler of Sumter, S. C.
She also leaves four half sisters, Mrs. B. F. Bretton of Asheboro, Mrs. A. S, Caldwell of Spartanburg, S. C., Mrs. Ernest L. Untz of Concord, and Mrs. Chas. T. Barner of Fort Meade, Md.
Funeral services were held this afternoon at 3 o'clock from Front Street Presbyterian church, of which she was a member. Services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. Earl Thompson, and interment took place in Oakwood cemetery.Wife of W.D. Wooten.
