DEALDA R. ACKERMAN was born August 25, 1917 near Dumont, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence E. and Lena (Felsman) Manifold. She married Hollis C. Overturf on April 18, 1934. He preceded her in death on April 24, 1960. DeAlda joined in marriage to Raymond Steward on February 23, 1966. He died June 30, 1984. She then married Joe D. Ackerman on June 7, 1986. Joe preceded her in death on October 27, 1989. DeAlda worked in the business office at ISTC (UNI) for many years. She was the bookkeeper at Cliff & Holly Shell Station in Cedar Falls and retired as the owner and operator of NEITA Raceway (Cedar Falls Raceway). DeAlda was a member of the United Church of Christ and the Happy Thought Rebekah Lodge #256. She died Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at Sartori Memorial Hospital, at 83 years of age.
DeAlda is survived by her daughter, Alma Heath and her husband Philip, of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren, Shawn, Kevin, Brett and Stacy Heath and six great-grandchildren; a sister, Kate Swanson of Cedar Falls; many nieces and nephews, and several step-children and step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her three husbands; an infant brother and three sisters, Lou Stock, Lucille Williams and Marie Stamp.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2001 at the United Church of Christ, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the church.
