James Charles Russell, aged 62 years, died at his home at Asbury Place, West End, at 3 o'clock this morning. The decedent was a super-annuated Methodist minister, who served 29 years in the pulpit, and retired only last November. He was born in Alabama August 4, 1845, and came to Texas, where he entered the ministry. He was ordained in 1877, and had charge of churches in many towns in Texas, among them Staples and Floresville. Mr. Russell came here from Floresville 18 months ago. Besides being a minister who had worked nearly half of his long life for the church, he was a member of the Masons, K. P. and Woodman lodges. He joined the Masons at Floresville, the K. P. lodge at Uvalde and the Woodmen at Weldon. He leaves, besides his widow, nine children, four sons and five daughters, as follows: J. W. Russell, Kennedy; Mrs. Minnie Rhodes, Barkersdale; Mrs. Anna Ware, Barkersdale; Mrs. William B. Brooks, Waelder; J. W. Russell, Aguascallentes, Mexico; A. E. Russell, the Misses Clara and Louise Slifton Russell, all of San Antonio. The funeral services will be held from the house at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon and will be in charge of the Alamo Lodge of Masons, of this place. At the house Rev. Stirling Fisher, of San Marcos, and Rev. J. H. Shaw, of this city, will speak. The burial will be in the Masonic cemetery.

*Widow Mahulda S. (RHODES) RUSSELL moved from Perry County, AL shortly after the Civil War with her son *James C. RUSSELL (1845AL-1908TX) to Robertson County, TX. In route J. C. RUSSELL married *Marjorie E. "Maggie" DILLARD (probably in DeSoto Parish, LA where her father *James H DILLARD had been established for about twenty years. Mrs M. E. (DILLARD) RUSSELL's tombstone is found in the Rhodes Chapel Cemetery of Robertson County TX with death dated 1869. This James H. DILLARDS and some siblings such as W. S. DILLARD are also found in Robertson County TX, some as late as the 1880's and on.
