The Democrat - Lowville, NY., May 18, 1881
Cyrus S. Crofoot, son-in-law of Dr. F.B. Hough, died at his home in Cleveland, O., last Saturday evening of Bright's disease. At the time of his death, he was engaged on the editorial staff of the Cleveland Leader, from which paper we copy the following: Mr Crofoot was born in Constableville, Lewis county, NY., February 9, 1846, and was therefore, in his 35th year. In 1868 he entered the Acadey at Belleville, Jefferson county, where he remained two or three years and then entered the St Lawrence University at Canton. He graduated at that institution and after teaching school for a short time-one term at the academy, at Lowville, in his native county- he entered Cornell University in 1869 and was a member of the first graduating class of that institution.
In 1875 Mr. Crofoot was married to Mary, the daughter of Dr. Franklin B. Hough, the historian. His faithful wife has clung to him, hoping against hope as only a true, noble woman can hope and cling to one she loves. The aged father and mother, two brothers and Mrs. Hough reached the city about a week before he died, and had the consolation of being known and recognized by the deceased nearly all the time. He died very peacefully without a struggle.
