A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of Edgar W. and Darfer Whisnant Lipscomb.
He was a graduate of Boiling Springs High School and attended Boiling Springs College and N.C. State University.
He retired from Dover Mill.
He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, where he was a former Sunday school teacher, deacon, trustee, church clerk, training union director, choir member and mens chorus member.
He loved to play his guitar and mandolin.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, William, David and Wendell Lipscomb.
Burial: Trinity Baptist Church.
