George W. Gallaher did go west, all the way to Kansas! He worked as a carpenter in Newton, surveyed the area, bought some land, and then returned to Marseilles. He married Phebe Estella Story, a Marseilles school teacher, 26 July 1888. They were the parents of one child, Estella Bernice Gallaher. George worked for the Adams Plant in Marseilles and for the John Deere Spreader Works of Moline, Illinois. George was a capable and skilled employee, a pattern maker. He received a pension from Deere & Co., in 1931.
-------He bought his daughter a fine piano for her 16th birthday and she played it for many years.
