Funeral services for Sidney C Leist, 77, were held today at 11 a.m. at Fisher Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Charles Duke, pastor of Crawford Street Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mr Leist died Friday night at the Sydney Convalescent Home after an illness of three years.
Born in Issaquena County, he lived in Meridian, Ms most of his life. He was a retired conductor for the Illinois Central Railroad, retiring after 45 years of service.
He was a member of the Methodist Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge of Meridian, and a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen.
He leaves three stepsons: James Marshall Hamilton of Burlingame, California, Howard P Hamilton of Oakland, California, and S Bert Hamilton of Sacramento, California, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers were: O W Thompson, Dr James Allison,Sidney Leist, Willie Leist Jr, Richard Leist and Miller Leist.
Honorary pallbearers were: Dr Leslie Rush, Doc Haney, Newellton Ramsey, T M Pulliam, T F Corn, J A Corn, all of Meridian: Marshall Lewis Spiars, Marshall White, Joe Guyton Sr, Joe Guyton Jr of Mayersville, Fred Fielder, and Austin Leist of Greenville, and Dr Steve Leist of Jackson.
