Born in Issaquena County, he came to Vicksburg in 1908. Prior to his retirement several years ago he was a painter for the Illinois Central Railroad, and earlier for the old street car company here.
Mr. Leist was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his widow, Alice Sanders Leist, two daughters, Mrs A D Barfield and Miss Addie Leist; four sons, Joe C Leist, Albert F Leist, Jessie D Leist and Willie R Leist; eighteen grandchildren, five great-grandchidren and three brothers, Robert Leist of Birmingham, Sid Leist of Meridian and Albert Leist of Vicksburg.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at the Fisher Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Warwick Aiken, Rector of the Christ Episcapal Church officiating.
Burial will be in the City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Charles M Leist, Billie Leist, Jack H Leist, Willie Leist, Jr, Charles L Leist, and Alfred L Barfield, all grandsons of the deceased, and Leonard Sanders and Lewis Moore.
