Steven "Steve" Wayne Brown, 56, of Piedmont, died Sunday, December 17, 2006, at his home in Piedmont, S.C. Born in New Castle, Ind., he was the son of the late Charles "Marshall" and Ella Lucille Brown (Baumgartner). He was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church in Powdersville.

Steve served with distinction in Vietnam as a United States Marine. He was past Commander of James F. Daniel, Jr., American Legion Post 3, where he was a long-time active member and a charter member of the Color Guard / Honor Guard. Steve was chosen Legionnaire of the Year 2003. He was a member of 40+8 Voiture 1244, and a member of Owens/Kennemore Marine Corps League. Steve was a respected leader in all his life endeavors.

Steve was employed by Bi-Lo/C&S Wholesale Services. He was Bi-Lo Truck Driving Champion 2003, and was also South Carolina Flatbed Division Champion 2003. He represented South Carolina in the National Truck Driving Championship in Columbus, Ohio, and was also Bi-Lo Driving Champion 2005. Steve was loved and respected by all who worked with and knew him.

Surviving are his only child; his daughter, Stephany Diane Wilson (Brown) of Worthington, Ohio; his grandson, Richard Steven Wilson of Worthington, Ohio; two brothers, Everett Brown and wife, Judy of Clayton, IN and Bill Brown and wife, Mary of Rockville, IN; three sisters, Velma Patterson and husband, Bob of Union City, IN, Marcella McCord and husband, Charles of Cambridge City, IN, and Gail Hutson and husband, Dennis of Clinton, IN; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Steve was predeceased by a step son, David Smith.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bethesda United Methodist Church, Highway 81, Powdersville, with Rev. Mike Cox and Rev. Cy Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Rick Owens, Ricky Barnes, Tom Mims, David Cash, Bill Garrish, Phillip Griffin, Cecil Buchanan and Cliff Cisson. Honorary Escort will be the Owens/Kennemore Marine Corps League.
