A native of Arkansas and a Groves resident for 18 years Mr. Abston died at 4 a.m. Monday in St. Mary Hospital. He served as a chemist for DuPont in Orange with over 32 years service. Mr. Abston was Groves city councilman 1966 through 1972. He served as mayor pro-tem in 1968, 1969 and 1971 and 1972. He was a member of Fairdale Missionary Baptist Church of Hemphill and Groves Lodge No. 1315 A.F. and A.M.
Mr. Abston is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jean Abston of Groves; four daughters, Mrs. Sharon Lewis and Mrs. Debbie Reed, both of Groves, Miss Cecile Abston and Mrs. Stephanie Carlson, both of Dallas; one sister, Mrs. L. T. Frances of Groves and four grandchildren.
