Thomas Jasper Holloway, 34, a son of Mrs. May H. Odom of this community, died of asphyxiation at Jackson, Mississippi, Thursday, February 12th. He was working as an employee of the Phoenix Utility Company of that city as a meter reader. On the fatal occasion, he had descended into a man-hole in the street to investigate a gas leakage in the gas pipe. Evidently there was more gas escaping than he anticipated, for when he entered it, he was immediately overcome by the escaping gas from the effects of which he died almost instantly.
The deceased is survived by his widow and a child, also by his mother, Mrs. May H. Odom and several brothers and sisters.
The body was shipped here for burial and the [unreadable] Woodmen of Bastrop, of which he was a member, officiated at the grave. The religious part of the service was conducted by Rev. Tom L. Roberts, pastor of the local Baptist church. Funeral was in charge of Kilpatrick & Kilpatrick, local directors.
