Wife of Clifford Walton Shaw.
The funeral services for Mrs. Clifford W. Shaw, of Bassett, who died unexpectedly at the home Thursday night, were held Saturday afternoon in the Bassett Baptist Church. Many beautiful flowers filled the chance, expressing the deep regard of a host of sorrowing friends. Members of the Bassett Kiwanis Club, of which Mr. Shaw is a member, acted as flower bearers. Active pallbearers were the first cousins of the deceased, and were as follows: D. Hurd Goode, Hampton Goode, Emory Goode, Maury Goode and B. Clifford Goode and Harold Woody and Earl Woody. The body was taken for interment to the family burying ground on the Old Goode estate, several miles east of Bassett. Mrs. Shaw was 29 years of age and apparently in usual health prior to the brief illness which caused her death. About midnight Wednesday, she sank into an unconscious condition from which she did not rally, the immediate cause of her death being spinal meningitis. Mrs. Shaw before he marriage was Miss Ester Goode and she is survived by her husband, attorney Clifford W. Shaw, three children, Alice, age 6; Tom, age 4, and Barbara age 2; her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Goode; two sisters, Virgie and Glenwood, all of Bassett, and one brother, J. H. Goode Jr., of Charlottesville. Among the relatives and friends from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Shaw of New Haven, Connecticut, parents of Mr. Shaw; Mrs. Charlie Scott of Roanoke, aunt of the deceased; Misses Mabel and Catherine Goode of Henry; Mrs. Metcher Good of Martinsville; Mrs. Ben Woody and Misses Sallie Stultz and Maggie Stone of Martinsville.
