Marion Carl Day, 74, died May 10, 2008, at Hutchinson Hospital.

He was born June 15, 1933, in Kingman County, Ks., the son of William W. and Emma Rose Wenzel Day. He graduated in 1951, from Pretty Prairie High School. He had been a resident of Hutchinson since 1956. He owned Marion Day Excavating for over 35 years. He was a lifetime farrier and horse trainer.

He belonged to the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post No. 68, and helped found the Sandhill Saddle Club. He served in the US Army during the Korean War.

On Aug. 3, 1956, he married Frances Marie Jordan in Phillipsburg. She survives. Other survivors include: son, Justin and wife Kelly, Hutchinson; daughter, Danette Chermak and husband Andy, Hutchinson; four brothers, Bill Day, South Hutchinson, Lester Day, Pretty Prairie, Jim Day, Branson, Mo, and Joe Day, Elizabethtown, Ky; three sisters, Laura Duncan, Valley Center, Frances Wilson, Charlestown, Ind, and Ione Legleiter, Bucklin; and four grandchildren, Kaycee and Heather Chermak, and Becky and Tyler Day. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Freeman, and Lena Parkhurst.

Funeral will be at 1 pm Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Bob Dalke presiding. Visitation will be Monday May 12, 2008, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the family present from 6-8 pm. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Pretty Prairie, Ks, with military graveside rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Memorials may be sent to Reins of Hope, Victory in the Valley, Hutchinson, or the American Heart Association, all in care of the mortuary.
