Lawrence ‘Larry' Kovars (The Voice of Pleasant Valley), age 89, of Muscoda, died on Saturday, December 27th, 2008 at his home in Muscoda. He was born October 12, 1919, the son of Joseph and Bertha (Kratochwill) Kovars.

He was raised in the Muscoda area and graduated from Muscoda High School in 1938. He entered the United States Army in May of 1942, served in the European campaign until the end of WWII, and was honorably discharged in October of 1945.

Larry was united in marriage to Helyn Kovars on September 15, 1942. Beginning in the spring of 1946, they farmed in the Pleasant Valley area until 1985, and moved to Muscoda in 1991.

Throughout his life, Larry loved to hunt and fish with his brothers and friends. From the late 1970's through the fall of 2008, he sang with the Larry Busch Band, entertaining audiences throughout the upper Midwest.

Survivors include his children, David (Sue) Kovars of Pekin, Illinois, Donna (David) Druckrey, of Spring Green, Dan Kovars of Boscobel, Douglas (Jean) Kovars of Maplewood, Minnesota, and Michael Kovars of Platteville, nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and a host of dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Helyn Kovars, as well as 5 brothers and 3 sisters.

A Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Muscoda at 11:00 AM with Father Rob Butz officiating.

Burial was held at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites provided by the Muscoda American Legion Post # 85.

Friends called at the Godager Funeral Home on Monday, December 29, 2008 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM where a parish rosary was held at 4:00 PM. Friends also called at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 from 10:00 AM until the time of the Mass at 11:00 AM.

The family suggested that memorial in Larry's name be given to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

The Godager Funeral Home of Muscoda assisted the family with their arrangements.
