Paul Matthews was born Dec 25, 1866 and died January 17, 1954. He was the Episcopal Bishop of New Jersey from 1915 to 1937. His forty-two year home on Bayard Lane is now part of the Medical Center at Princeton complex. He is buried with his wife Elsie Proctor Matthews, born October 8, 1872. She died on Aug 22, 1946. Other burials in this plot include – Mary Ann Matthews Spackman (October 10, 1902 to August 27, 1978), Oliver Elsworth Spackman (Sep 24, 1960 to January 13, 1961), Ann Spackman (November 25, 1932 to November 26, 1961), Carol M Spackman (Aug 2, 1930 to Feb 9, 1958) and Harriet Proctor Matthews (December 20, 1905 to December 29, 1922).

A prayer covers the front of the monument reading, "Lord, Support us all the day long, of this troublous life, until the shadows lengthen, the evening comes and this busy world is hushed, the fever of life is over, our work is done. Then of thy mercy grant us a safe lodging, a holy rest and peace in the last.
Amen"
