Herschel Jay Adkisson was the son of Robert Ananias and Clarinda Ellen Powell-Adkisson. He was the husband of Maude Kimball having married just about 3 1/2 months prior to his untimely death. Herschel was one of many fine young men that enlisted to serve his country on August 30, 1918 at Camp Funston, Kansas (Ft. Riley). He and many others perished from the 1918 pandemic, the Spanish Influenza. His illness quickly grew into a most virulent pneumonia that he was unable to overcome and he passed away at just 23 years of age.
