WWII Veteran - PFC US ARMY WORLD WAR II

Leonard R. "Lenny" Liberty, 86, of Windsor Locks, died peacefully on Monday (January 12, 2009) at Kettle Brook Care Center in East Windsor.

Born in Hyde Park, VT on November 4, 1922, Lenny was the son of the late Louis and Celia (Rock) Liberty.

Lenny had resided in Windsor Locks since 1957 and was a communicant of St. Robert Church. He retired in 1987 from the Windsor Locks High School and was previously employed with the State of Connecticut as a prison guard.

Lenny proudly served his country with the United States Army during World War II and was the recipient of the WW II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Campaign Ribbon, European Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal.

Lenny belonged to the VFW Post 6123 in Windsor Locks and the Knights of Columbus Riverside Council 26 in Windsor Locks.

Lenny is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-nine years, Beatrice M. (Callan) Liberty; his children, Rose Liberty of Hartford, Patricia Liberty-Harris and her husband Mark of Central Point, OR, Thomas Liberty and his wife Carol of Windsor Locks, Janie Griffin of Windsor Locks and Tracy Liberty and his wife Lynne of Windsor Locks; his brother, Willard Liberty and his wife Patricia of Levittown, PA; three sisters, Madeline Garten of Chicopee, MA, Betty Salvadore and her husband Paul of Westboro, MA and Joanne Chaput of Chicopee, MA; nine grandchildren including his special granddaughter Rachel Liberty and four great grandchildren.

Lenny's family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, January 16, beginning at 10 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m. at Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring Street, Windsor Locks, CT. Burial with Full Military Honors accorded will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery in Windsor Locks.
