Earl Edgar Woods, Sr.

Earl Edgar Woods, 88, died at Jasper Memorial Hospital, August 20, 2012. Earl was born in Port Arthur on March 20 1924 to William Harvey Woods and Flora Cunningham Woods. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pineland. He was a retired operator with Texaco where he worked for 35 years. He served as a combat engineer in the Army during World War II, taking part in the Normandy Invasion, landing on Omaha Beach in the second wave. He later participated in the drive across France, serving in General George Patton's Third Army.

Earl is survived by his wife Florence Woods of Pineland; two sons, Earl Edgar "Eddie" Woods Jr. and wife Tammy, of Groves, Al Woods and wife Greta of Pineland; two daughters, Sissie Cox-Kilcrease of Pineland and Belinda Gibson and husband Bruce of Bridge City; one brother, James "Jew" Woods of Hurst; one sister, Audrey Oliver of Pineland; five grandchildren, Corey Cox, Casey Cox, B.J. Gibson, Brent Gibson and wife Ashley, and Joshua Woods; and one great grandchild, C.J. Cox.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday evening, August 22, 2012, in the Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr St., Hemphill, Texas. Funeral services will be at 10:00 PM, Thursday, August 23, 2012, in the Starr Funeral
Home Chapel, with burial at 3:00 PM in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Nederland, Texas.
