Bill McGuire, 97, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. He was born Jan. 26, 1908, in Banner.

He was a member of Banner Baptist Church for more than 81 years and a lifetime deacon. He was a member of Banner Masonic Lodge No. 329 for 60 years and a member of the David Murphree Chapter of SAR. He was a farmer. He was supervisor for Calhoun County's District 3 for eight years.

Survivors include one daughter, Sara Costner and husband, Charles, of Oxford; one son, Hugh Bill McGuire and wife Alice, of Banner; four grandchildren, Jeff Costner, Sarah Marie Tidwell, Henry McGuire and Hugh McGuire; and four great-grandchildren, Steve Tidwell, Hope Tidwell, Drew McGuire and Cayla McGuire.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Inez Lindesy McGuire; a son Joe Paul McGuire and his parents, William Homer McGuire and Alice Gertrude Caldwell McGuire. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Bruce. The Rev. Joe Epting will officiate, and the Rev. John Gray and the Rev. Waren Taylor will assist. Burial with Masonic graveside rites will be at Providence Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Henry McGuire, Drew McGuire, Jerry Tidwell, Steven Tidwell, Jeff Costner, L.H. Johnson, John A. McGuire and Carl Baker.
