Born:Julianna Kapser in Gars am Inn, Bavaria. (Birth date on marker differs from baptism record). Immigrated to USA from Bremen to Baltimore on ship Sir Isaac Newton with family 16 Aug 1846. Settled St. Marys PA. Entered convent at St. Marys 11 Apr 1853. Started novitiate 16 Nov 1853. Took name Sister Gertrude. Left St. Marys with 7 other Nuns 3 June 1857. Arrived below St. Cloud (steamboat grounded near Sportsman's Island) MN on steamboat North Star 3 July 1857. She and the 7 others set up convent in St. Cloud, which was later moved and became St. Benedict's in St Joseph MN. Took her final vows 7 May 1860. Left St. Cloud for Mount St. Scholastica, Atchison KS 11 May 1865 Instructed in music and Fine Arts there. Spent remaining years at Mount St. Scholastica.
