William Russell was born to Judge Ebenezer Russell and Elizabeth Stork Russell of Salem, Washington Co., NY. He married Submit Foskitt Willson in 1791 and the following children were born to this union. William's mother Elizabeth reportedly objected to William's marriage to Submit Wilson, who was said to be dark haired and wild.
