Gertrude Flournoy, age 99, of Breckenridge, died Sunday, January 11, 2009, at Villa Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, January 15, at Necessity Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles West officiating. Burial will follow in the Necessity Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 14.
Gertrude Lee Flournoy was born on February 28, 1909, in Rusk County, Texas, to parents, Clarence Adrian Lee and Mattie Gertrude Dudley Lee. She graduated from Henderson High School in 1927. She also graduated with an A.A.S. degree in liberal arts from East Texas Baptist College and went on to attend Stephen F. Austin State College for three years. Gertrude married Earl Alexander Flournoy on August 20, 1931, in Longview, Texas. Following her marriage, Gertrude made her home with Earl in the Necessity Community of Stephens County, Texas. Mr. Flournoy preceded her in death in 1977.
Mrs. Flournoy was a dedicated homemaker, providing home-cooked meals and hand-sewn clothing for her family. She also enjoyed quilting and gardening. She was a member of Necessity Baptist Church.



Mrs. Flournoy is preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Newt Lee and Victor Lee; and three sisters, Olive Gore, Hallie Latham and Ruby Flournoy.
Mrs. Flournoy is survived by five sons, Dale Flournoy and wife, Matsue of San Diego, Calif., Billy Flournoy and wife, Frances of Breckenridge, Russell Flournoy and wife, Kathleen of Breckenridge, Larry Flournoy and wife, Mary of Whitney and Caroll Flournoy and wife, Nancy of Longview; one daughter, Nancy Kime and husband, Ted of Breckenridge; one brother, Russell Lee of Kilgore; two sisters, Rose Cole and Laverne Watson, both of Kilgore; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
