Son of Matthew M. Rhoads and Cynthia Ann Denham Rhoads. Married Agnes Hurt November 24, 1898 in Covelo. A cobbler, and saddlemaker by trade. He would sit with children and teach them how to tie their shoes when they would come and pick up their new pair. When he died at age 90, he had already split enough wood for another winter.

Rites Conducted Today for Colelo Pioneer:
Funeral services were conducted today at the Covelo Masonic Temple under direction of the Eversole Mortuary for William D. Rhoads of Covelo, who died in a local hospital at the age of 90 last Friday. Burial was to follow in the Covelo Cemetery.
Mr. Rhoads who was born July 30, 1870 in Missouri, had lived in Covelo for 75 years. he was a retired merchant having operated the Covelo Saddlery Store for many years.
He was a member of the Covelo Masonic Lodge, F&AM, and the Augusta Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.
His wife, who died about five years ago, was Anges Hurt, a member of a pioneer Round Valley family.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Naomi Norton of Albany, Calif.; and Mrs. Ruby Coke of Jamestown, Calif. There are seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Today's rites were conducted by the members of the Covelo Masonic Lodge.
