Kenneth F. Barnett

Age 66, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at the Heartland Hospice House surrounded by his family.

Born in Sylacauga, AL on May 27 1942, Mr. Barnett was the son of Marie (Honeycutt) Barnett and the late Dewey Barnett. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force for 23 years until his retirement in 1983. He was assigned to the 89th Squadron at Andrews Air Force Base, Washington DC where he provided technical support for the President's aircraft. He served a three year tour at Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan. He later worked for BellThermolite and for Sardo & Sons Warehousing. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and spending time with his family. He made many small trips to Dunkin Donuts for his favorite cup of coffee.

In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his 2 daughters, Pamela and Michelle Barnett. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Gwendolyn Maxine (Thweatt) Barnett; his daughter, Stefanie L. Barnett; 2 grandchildren, Ryan Cornish and Taylor Utleye; his mother, Marie Barnett; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph D. and Bonnie Barnett and H. Stephen and Becky Barnett; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Christiana Hospital for their compassionate and professional care.

Friends and family are invited to visitation on Tuesday, January 20, between 4-6 pm, at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington where funeral services will begin at 6 pm. Committal services with military honors will be held Wednesday at 11 am, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Ogletown Baptist Church, 316 Red Mill Rd, Newark, De 19713 or Helen Graham Cancer Center, 4701 Stanton Ogletown Rd, Newark, DE, 19713.
