Death of J. B. Erb

J. B. Erb died at a quarter before 1 o'clock Wednesday morning after an illness of several months. He suffered terribly with dropsy and his death has been expected at almost any time since the death of his only son, William, who died eleven weeks ago, for Will's death had a very depressing effect upon him.

John B. Erb has been a resident of Napa since 1882, and stood high in the estimation of his fellow townsmen. He was a native of Dauphin County, Penn., and was born August 29th, 1827. In 1852 he went from his native state to St. Louis, and the next year came to California, arriving at Placerville on September 5th. Until he moved to Napa he followed mining in El Dorado, Placer, and Nevada counties, making his home at Moore's Flat, Nevada county, where he married Miss Catherine O'Connell in 1866. He was a member of Madison Lodge, F. and A. M., of Grass Valley, for 44 years.

He leaves a widow and six daughters-Mrs. T. H. Curley of San Francisco, Agnes Erb of the Napa school department, Nettie Erb of the San Francisco school department, Mazie, Kathlyeen and Fannie Erb of Napa. They have the sympathy of the community in their bereavement.

The funeral will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the family residence, under the auspices of Yount Lodge No. 12, F. and A. M.
