Gerald D. 'Jerry' Cullum

Gerald D. "Jerry" Cullum, of Ponca City, died March 18, 1989.
He was born Jan. 22, 1928 in Glen Elder, Kan., to Mr. and Mrs. Don Cullum. Later on, his family moved to Canyon City, Colo., and lived there until moving to Ponca City during the early war years. He has two brothers, Louis V. Cullum, and Jimmie Dale Cullum. His father and mother preceded him in death.
Gerald and Jacqueline M. Stephen were united in marriage on April 4, 1948 by radio evangelist P. T. Stanford in her parent's home in Ponca City. They had one son, Gregory Scott Cullum.
Mr. Cullum served with the U.S. Navy, which he entered at age 17, and was stationed at Camp Parks, Calif., with the 141st CB Battalion Maintenance Unit 607. He was then transferred from there to the Bikini Atoll Islands. For many years he served in the Army Reserves, and the 13th Mobile Communications Squadron at Tinker Air Force Base.
He returned from the Navy in 1946 and entered Bott's Business College. He was a graduate of the local school system in 1947.
After graduating, he started his career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. He retired Feb. 27, 1988 after over 39 years of service in the Kay County area.
His hobbies were his family, reading, fishing and volunteering his energies to the VFW, where he was a life member. He was also a member of the American Legion, Ponca Trailblazers and the Moose Lodge. He also loved animals.
Mr. Cullum professed his Christian faith at Northeast Baptist Church on March 28, 1971. He was baptized by the Rev. Ralph O. Dersham on April 4, 1971, and was the first man to be baptized in the new baptismal.
In addition to his wife, Jacqueline, he is survived by his son, Gregory, of 205 South Ash; two brothers, Louis of Montana and Jimmie Dale of Albuquerque; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Tuesday, at the Northeast Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ralph Dersham of Bartlesville and the Rev. Larry Nigh, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at the Longwood Cemetery, under the direction of the Trout Funeral Home.
Casket bearers will be Don Kaufman, Richard Dulinsky, Eugene George, Ray Paltridge, James Epperson and Roy Rogers. Honorary casket bearers will be members of the VFW and employees of Southwestern Bell.
The casket will not be open after the service, however, friends may call at the Trout Funeral Home until 12 noon on Tuesday.
Memorial contributions may be made in Jerry's name to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation Heart Fund, or to the favorite charity of the giver's choice.
The family will be at the home on 2704 East Hartford.
