Thomas' Father, William David Alt born in Iowa and lived in Dallas most of his life. His wife was Gertrude Nesmith from Arkansas. They has 4 children; Gertrude, William, Jr., Leslie and Thomas. Tom joined the U.S. Air Force at the age of 17 and served two years in the 7th Air Force in the Marianas Islands in the South Pacific Theater. Tom married Alethia Ann Brockles on Jan. 31, 1947 in St. Matthew's Episcopal Cathedral in Dallas, Texas. Tom and Alethia moved to Fredericksburg in 1975 from Dallas. In 1977 they bought and restored the pioneer Hanisch house on West Main St. and opened the Altdorf Biergarten. In 1981 they bought another old restaurant on East Main and opened Auslander restaurant. Tom and Alethia had 6 children, Angela, Thomas, Jr., Barbara, Christina, Daniel, and Elena.
