COPEMISH _ Claribel R. Challender, 88, of Copemish, formerly of Traverse City,
passed away Jan. 16, 2009, at Tender Care Birchwood.
Born Aug. 13, 1920, in Traverse City, Claribel was the daughter of Anastazzia (Dracka ) and Frank
Eggli. After graduation from Traverse City High School in 1939, she married William E . Challender on
Aug. 19, 1939.
Together they raised six children, who survive, Shirley (Brad) Mayhew of Middleville, Bill (Barbara)
Challender of Snohomish, Wash., Nancy Carbary of Cadillac, Barbara (Jon) Sutton of Cedar, Jane Ann
Challender of Copemish and Elsie R. Challender of Ludington. Claribel is also survived by several
grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughter-in-law, Mryna Challender;
son-in-law, Donald Carbary; brother, Howard Eggli; and sisters, Marion Hill and Dorothy Laird.
Cremation has taken place with inurnment at Maple Grove Cemetery Keswick, according to her
wishes. A private family gathering is planned for later this year.
Memorial contributions may be made to Birchwood _ Activities Fund.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City.
