John Hollis Goset was born in South Carolina where he married his first wife in 1851, Ellen Clark (1830-1854). Ellen is buried in SC. He next married Mary Elizabeth Gregory in 1855, also in SC. They moved west following the Civil War and settled in Ft. Smith, AR. Mary Elizabeth died and is buried there. John then married the sister of Mary Elizabeth, Sarah A. Gregory in 1880. Following the death of Sarah, he married Tchulia Clayborne on 2/8/1891, with whom he shares a headstone in the Shiloh Cemetery, Ft. Smith, Sebastian, AR. John had a total of 23 children with his succession of wives.
