LEXINGTON: Dr. Wesley G. Lanker, age 82, of Frederick Street, Lexington, died Thursday morning December 13, 2001 in MedCentral Mansfield Hospital following a short illness.

He was born October 23, 1919 in Perry Township, Morrow County, to Carlton W. and Bertha A. (Dawson) Lanker, and remained a lifelong Lexington area resident.

A 1938 graduate of Johnsville High School, Wesley earned his degree as Doctor of Dental Surgery from The Ohio State University in 1944.

He entered the US Army in 1944 as a dentist, serving during WWII in the Pacific Theater with the 306th Medical Detachment.

Following his military service, Wesley opened his dental practice in Lexington in 1947, serving the village for more than 50 years.

He was a member of First Alliance Church in Mansfield, where he had served the congregation as deacon and elder.

He was a member of the American Dental Association and the Ohio Dental Association.

A people-person who enjoyed life, especially making people laugh, Wesley enjoyed woodcutting, woodworking and fishing.

He is survived by his wife Laurel M. (Williams) Heilman Lanker, whom he married October 4, 2001; a son & daughter-in-law Jon W. & Deborah Lanker of Mt. Gilead; three daughters & sons-in-law Joann R. & Dan Williams of Lexington, Arlene H. & Louis Hahn of Waxahachie, TX and Susan E. & Charles Walker of Lexington; a nephew that he raised Eric Gundersen of Lexington; five step children and their spouses Joseph R. & Lana Heilman of Treasure Island, FL, Barbara E. & Richard Metcalf, Patricia K. Brewster and Kathleen S. Heilman all of Mansfield, and Thomas K. & Jodi Heilman of Pickerington; ten grandchildren Jon and Ben Lanker, Tim, James and Christy Williams, Nathan and Kelsie Hahn, and Shaun, Jonathan and Logan Walker; nine step grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; two brothers and a sister-in-law Charles A. Lanker of North Woodbury and Bert R. & B. Leone Lanker of Mount Vernon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Adelaide C. (Olsen) Lanker on August 23, 2001; two brothers James C. Lanker and Romy Lanker; and two sisters Ruth J. Brewer and Pearl Fogle.

Friends may call Sunday December 16, 2001 from 2-5 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. Visitation continues Monday from 10 am until time of the funeral service at 11 am in First Alliance Church, 291 West Cook Road, Mansfield. Pastors Doyle Peyton, Charles R. Holmes, and Kevin R. Crawford will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park, where the Richland County Joint Veterans Council will hold military graveside honors.
