Deport

Bob K. Alsobrook, 66, of Deport, formerly of Paris, died Saturday, April 15, 1995, in McCuistion Regional Medical Center.

Wood Funeral Home of Deport will conduct services at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, at Calvary United Methodist Church in Paris with Dennis Lee and Jim Bell officiating. Burial will be in Shady Grove Cemetery near Clardy.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Tucker, Bill Clayton, Wayne Cox, Michael Malone, Dick Cordes, Tom Adams, Dewey Wilburn and David Hamilton.

Ushers will be John Bell and Bill McNellis. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Alsobrook was born May 11, 1928, in Deport, a son of Doug and Goldie Roberts Alsobrook.

He married Jackie Ruth Stone on July 30, 1954, in Paris. She survives.

He graduated from Bogata High School, then attended Paris Junior College. He later received his bachelor's degree in art from East Texas State University while owning and operating Bob's Dairyland in Paris. While at ETSU, a developed a new form of painting using aluminum foil. He served with valor as a forward artillery observer in the Korean War with the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of captain and earning both the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star, among other honors. He also served in the National Guard following his service in the war. Mr. Alsobrook worked for Westinghouse in Paris before his employment at Flex-O-Lite where he was promoted to assistant manager. He left that company in 1980 and worked for several years for Ark-Texas Council of Governments, overseeing U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development programs in a number of cities. He was a member of the Sulphur Springs Kiwanis Club. He served on the Lamar County Human Resources Council and was a past member of Paris Junior College business education committee. He was active in the Democratic Party and served on the vestry of Holy Cross Episcopal Church where he was a member. He was also an avid gardener and antique car buff.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Ruth Ann Alsobrook of Austin and Susan Kennedy of Ruesselsheim, Germany, London, England, and Allen, TX; one son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Beth Alsobrook of Sulphur Springs; these children of the heart, Pattie and Glenn Hevron of Bedford and Dave and Judy Daniel of Paris; six grandchildren, Honey Kennedy, Bryon and Amy Hevron, Crystal Henry, and Joy and Josh Daniel; his father, Doug Alsobrook of Deport; two sisters, Dr. Nancy Jones of Irving and Patsy Norrell of Deport; a sister-in-law, Marguerite Butler of Paris; one niece and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Goldie Alsobrook, on Oct. 15, 1990.

The family requests memorials be made to Paris Public Library or the Lamar County Humane Association.
