Ollie Ray Carr, 100, of Covenant Village, Gastonia, and formerly of Dallas, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, at Covenant Village.
She was born in Gaston County and was the daughter of the late Edgar and Lula Ewing Ray.
She is survived by nieces, Frances Hooks, Jean Harris, Billie Brewer, Joyce Ann McArthur; nephews, Eddie Ray Jr., Sonny Ray, Robert Ray and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mitchell Carr, two brothers, Coit Ray Sr., Edgar A. Ray Sr.; four sisters, Elizabeth Ray Harris, Gertie Ray Durham, Virginia Ray Lewis, Thelma Ray Rhyne.
Pallbearers will be Van Brewer, Mark Ray, Greg Hooks, Mickey Denton, Bill Burkett, Jimmy Burkett, Matt Beckham, John Merrill.
Mrs. Carr was a member of Dallas Baptist Church, Dallas for over 93 years, where she was a member of the WMU, former Sunday School teacher and served on various church committees.
She was a graduate of Appalachian State University. She taught in the Gaston County Schools for 40 years and retired in 1974 while teaching at Carr Elementary School, Dallas.
