Willie was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Navy. He established Smith Auto Repair in Hazlehurst which he owned and operated for 24 years. He served as the Fire Chief in Hazlehurst for 25 years. He also served for many years as the Chairman of the Deacons at the First Baptist Church in Hazlehurst. He was an outstanding citizen, a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Addie Marie Smith and one son, Ronald Vence Smith.
Survivors include: one son, Jerry Smith and wife, Sandra Gaye of Mena, AR; one half-brother, Oscar Smith of Biloxi; three grandchildren, Ronald Smith of Mena, AR, Jeanette Clements of Oxford and David Smith of Hazlehurst; and four great grandchildren.
