Martha Jane Ainsworth was born in Howard county, Missouri, daughter of Lovick Ainsworth and Mary Davis. She was quite young when her father died, followed by her mother a few years later. Martha lived with her brother, Wilson D. Ainsworth, perhaps until 1863 when she married her cousin, Lovick Rochel Ainsworth in Howard county. Martha's father and husband both had the same first name, Lovick.

Lovick and Martha Jane had a large family: William Rochel, James Patterson, Romeo Wilson, John Strother, Robert D., Cora F., Hiram W., Horace L., Lavina Jane, Anna L., and David C.

Early in the 20th century, they moved to Kansas City where they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1913. Martha died in 1916, perhaps suddenly, of la grippe.
