He was a grantee of Newbury, VT., & settled on the upper meadow near the river. His name is on a list recorded as heads of families there in 1770. Married, 3/27/1769, Elinor, daughter of Elihu Johnson, who, after his death, married Ezra Gates & died 9/24/1822, aged 69 years. Mr. Chamberlin died 5/14/1787. One paragraph in Wells' History of Newbury, VT., reads: -
"Watches were brought into town before clocks, & came with the first settlers. Col. Kent's diary mentions selling a watch to Abiel Chamberlin in 3/1763. The watches of those days were called 'Bulls Eyes' & had two cases, an outer & an inner case, which were detachable".
