Harvey B. Bloomquist, 71, retired assistant fire chief of Rock Island, died at 1:30 a.m. today at a local hospital following an illness of five weeks. Previously he had been residing with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Bus Iglehart of 1325 Twenty-second Avenue, Rock Island.

Funeral services will be held at Hodgson Mortuary with the Rev. C.H. Rohlfing, pastor of the Church of Peace, officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.

Born in Coal Valley, Illinois on Aug. 13, 1881. Mr. Blomquist received his education in Rock Island schools. He had been a member of the Rock Island Fire Department from 11 Nov 1905 - 1 Sep 1946. At the time of his retirement on Sept. 1, 1946, he was assistant fire chief.

He married Anna Freshe on March 30, 1903 in Rock Island. She died in 1932. In 1933 he married Rose Jordan in Rock Island. He was a member for 25 years of the Rock Island Eagles.

Survivors, besides his wife, are two daughters, Mrs. Bus Inglehart and Mrs. Clara Coyne; two stepsons, Harold and William Jordan, all of Rock Island; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Keck, Lake View, Ia.; and Mrs. Nell Bomers, Glendale, Calif, a brother, John, Colorado Springs, Colo, and three grandchildren.
