Jim was the son of Charles James Steinbach and Lorena Parkhill Steinbach. Charles and Lorena met while they were working in Beaumount; she was teaching and he worked for a steel company. James "Jim" was born in Beaumount, and later a little girl came along, Ann, to join the family. After Jim's time in the Navy, he attended the University of Houston, and there met his bride-to-be, Nancy Bowman. They were married in 1958 at Glena Park Methodist Church where Nancy had attended for years. Jim worked for U.S. Steel many years and when he retired they moved to Fredericksburg, TX in 1995-96. Jim was a cradle Episcopalian and never missed church, and of course Nancy is also an Episcopalian now. They raised their children in the Episcopal Church.
