Son of John Brumback, born Virginia and Sarah Ann Essex, born Ohio.

From Missouri the Center State: 1821-1915, Volume 4 by Walter Barlow Stevens, published 1915:

Henry Brumback, a man of learning, holding to high ideals, noble in action and sincere in purpose, leaves behind him a memory that is enshrined in the hearts of all who knew him--a memory that is a benediction to all who were associated with him. About five miles south of Newark, in Licking county, Ohio, was the old Brumback family homestead called Woodland, and it was there that Henry Brumback was born on the 28th of March, 1840, a son of John Brumback, who had removed to Ohio from the Shenandoah valley of Virginia, in the year 1819 when all that region was largely an undeveloped wilderness.
On the 14th of March, 1872, Mr. Brumback was united in marriage to Miss Lizzie S. DeMary, who was a teacher in Almira College at Greenville, Illinois. They became parents of a son and two daughters, Dr. Ernest D. Brumback, now of New York City; Nellie Mabel, who died November 19, 1884; and Mrs. Charles L. Henson, of Mount Vernon, Missouri, whose husband is a well known attorney there and a representative of one of the old pioneer families of southwest Missouri. The wife and mother passed away July 16, 1890, and on the 3d of September, 1894, Mr. Brumback was again married, his second union being with Miss Ella Scroggs. Nineteen years later Mr. Brumback passed away at his home in Mount Vernon, his death occurring on the 15th of September, 1913.
