Leo Luebbehusen lost his battle with cancer Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, surrounded by his family.
Memorial service: 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Cathedral, 1206 Throckmorton St., Fort Worth. He requested that his remains be donated to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, where he participated in the Dallas study that tested the effects of weightlessness on the astronauts for NASA during the early 1960s.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Vitas Innovative Hospice Care or a charity of choice.
He was born Feb. 27, 1946, in Gary, Ind., to Leo Aloysius Luebbehusen Sr. and Eleanor Ruth Nicholson Luebbehusen. He was the eldest of four sons. Leo graduated with the Class of 1963 from Eastern Hills High School in Fort Worth. He took his master of business administration degree from the University of Dallas and obtained his juris doctor from the Texas Wesleyan University School of Law.
He was a member of the Fort Worth Bar Association, the Hispanic Bar Association, the Tarrant County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and MENSA.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents.
Leo's family would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate and tireless caregivers of John Peter Smith Hospital, Vitas Hospice Care and Manor Care Nursing Home.
Survivors: His daughter, Natalie Poston; his brothers, Phil and wife, Janice, Steve and wife, Jamie, and Bill and wife, Carol; his nieces, Lexi McKay and husband, Colin, Meredith Luebbehusen, Lauren Strieby and husband, Jon, Dr. Hillary Luebbehusen and Elizabeth Luebbehusen; nephews, Tyler Luebbehusen and Preston Luebbehusen; beloved cousin, Dot Hamblet; grandnephew, Charlie McKay; grandniece, Elizabeth McKay; and many friends, relatives and colleagues in the legal community.
