Catherine Delores Aiton, 95, of Grand Rapids, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2009 at Grand Itasca Hospital in Grand Rapids.

Catherine was born in 1913, to Eric and Maria (Johnson) Bjork in Ashland, Wis., moving with her family to Harris Township in 1915 where she grew up and attended schools.

She was united in marriage to Gerald Clifford Aiton on Nov 16, 1929 in Grand Rapids. She was a charter member of the United Methodist Church of Grand Rapids.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Gerald in 1982; grandson, Carl Aiton; and great grandson, Jay MacNeil; sons-in-law, Dean Herdman and Wayne Thielke; four brothers, Carl M. Bjork, John Walford Bjork, Nels Olof Gustav Bjork, and Andrew Bjork; six sisters, Margaret Cecilia Carnahan, Hilda Trombley, Maria Hedina Tucci, Anna Caroline Wittstruck, Flossie Smith and Florence Fuller.

She is survived by her daughters, Delores (Merton) Rima of Grand Rapids, Geraldine (Robert L.) Rowe of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Kathy (John) Pliska of Grand Rapids; sons, Bruce (Kay) Aiton of Grand Rapids and Vernon of Delta Junction, Alaska; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
