Vesper Akin, 71, of McGehee, formerly of Crossett, died Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Born on April 13, 1937, in Jones, LA, to Luther Clemmon and Vera Evans Akin, he was a Baptist, 32 degree Mason and served in the National Guard. He spent most of his career in retail sales, including managing Sterling's Department Store and several grocery businesses. He retired as agency manager of the Ashley Life Insurance Company.
Mr. Akin was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 17, in the First Free Will Baptist Church in Crossett with Bro. David Pike officiating.
Burial followed at the Crossroads Cemetery.
