Leo A. "Tony" Belanger, 52, died unexpectedly Friday February 16, 2001.
Leo had been employed at Florida Wholesale Forklifts in Port Canaveral for the past five years. Throughout his life he worked as an auto mechanic at various places in Maine and Florida. His greatest passion was drag racing. He was also a two time track champion at Oxford Plains Dragway in Oxford, Maine. He won numerous races at Orlando Speedworld.
He was a dear friend of many, a loving father, and grandfather, who adored his grandsons.
His wife Claire (Blier) died in 1985. He was predeceased by his parents Leo and Margaret (Dean) Belanger.
He is survived by two daughters, Christine Cromwell and companion Scott Fifield of Cocoa, and Mrs. Robert (Kelly) Beauchesne Jr, of Rumford, Maine; one brother, Barry of Frye, Maine; three sisters, Mrs. Edward (Linda) Groleau of Hartford, Maine, Mrs. Douglas (Marie) Duchesne of No. Anson, Maine and Virginia Belanger and companion, Jeff Wilkins of Livermore, Maine; two grandsons, Jacob Beauchesne and Austin Cromwell; and nine nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, with services to follow at 11 a.m. at Brevard Memorial Funeral Home. Services, in Maine, will be on Saturday March 3, 2001, at Thibeaults Funeral Home, Penobscot St., Rumford, Maine. Please call for time at (207) 364-4366.
