Melvin James Camp, 102, of Platteville, died at Grace Pointe on January 18, 2011. He was born on January 2, 1909 in Platteville to Lewis Clark and Lucy (Egner) Camp.

Melvin married Ruth Carol Bowman in 1940 in Arvada and she preceded him in death.
Mr. Camp ranched and farmed in the Platteville area since 1932.

He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Platteville Volunteer Fire Department and served as the fire chief for 18 years, and as a member of the Platteville Lions Club with a 60 year perfect attendance award. Melvin served on the board of the Platteville Savings and Loan Association as well as a lifetime member of the Platteville Milling and Irrigating Company.

He is survived by his daughter, Joan Camp of Platteville; sister, Louise Robb of San Antonio, TX; sister-in-law, Lois Camp of Fort Morgan; numerous nieces and nephews in Colorado and out of state, as well as extended family, business associates and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife; brothers, Lloyd, John and Harold; sister, Mary Mitchell and his cousin, Father Bud Raney.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, January 24 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Platteville. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 25 at St. Nicholas. Interment Mizpah Cemetery, Platteville.
