Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. Military graveside rites will be performed by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1273.
Visitation will be at Behrens today from noon until 8 p.m., on Monday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until service.
French died Thursday at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls.
He was born July 18, 1920, at Worthing to Perle and Estella (Larson) French. He attended Washington High School in Sioux Falls.
He married Mildred Bush on July 3, 1941, at Canton. They lived in Sioux Falls and in 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in Europe and Asia and returned to Sioux Falls in 1946.
In 1958 the couple moved to Pierre, and they moved to Aberdeen in 1965.
They have lived in Rapid City since 1967. He worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company for 38 years in South Dakota and retired from Kearns Caterpillar Company in 1984.
He was a member of VFW Post 1273, the Moose Lodge and the Kidney Dialysis Support Group.
He is survived by his wife Mildred French of Rapid City; six sons, including Dennis French of Brush Prairie, Wash., Donald French of Gillette, Wyo., one sister, 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
