Jack was the son of William Bishop Reed and Sarah (Sadie) Beatrice Handford. He married his first wife Lillian Marie Durchuck on 7/24/1948 in Trenton, N.J. He and Lillian had three boys: William, John, and Edward. After Lillian's passing on 12/20/1996, Jack married his neighbor Clara Grimm Conner on June 24th, 2000.

Jack was the grandfather of Michelle Janette Reed Pollis, Robert William Reed, Jill Reed Breneman, Beth Reed Lehman, Kim Reed, Jack Reed and Nancy Reed Wilhelm.
Jack was also the great grandfather of Alexis Lee Breneman and Ryan Michael Pollis.

John " Jack" W. Reed, 83, of ------ passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at the Lebanon V. A. Medical Center. Born in Trenton, NJ he was the son of the late William Bishop and Sarah B. Handford Reed. He was the loving husband of Clara "Claire" Conner-Reed. He was preceded in death in 1996 by his first wife, Lillian Durchuck Reed. Jack was a member of St. ------ Catholic Church of ------ where he served on church council, grounds maintenance committee and was a lector.
In 1943 he left Trenton, NJ volunteering for the U.S. Navy. A World War II veteran he served in the Navy Armed Guard Division as a gunner. He received 2 battle stars and later 2 medals from Russia. After military service he returned to school for his GED. Jack graduated in 1950 from Delaware Valley College, Doylestown with a BS in Poultry Husbandry. After graduation he was a salesman in NJ for Kasco Feed of NY state and Kelloggs feed division of Battle Creek, Michigan. In 1956 Jack started with GLF of Lakewood, NJ as enterprise salesman-farm supplies and later assistant manager at Farm Store, Tunkhannock, store manager at Pleasant Mount, PA and store manager in Carbondale, PA. GLF and Eastern became Agway Cooperative Association in 1964 where Jack held various positions. He was responsible for building in Lebanon, PA the first farm chemical plant east of the Mississippi. In 1988 Jack retired from Agway, Lebanon, PA after 32 years of service. After retirement he was a volunteer driver for Lancaster County Department of Veteran's Affairs, the transport crew for the ------ Veterans Ambulance Association and volunteered as a docent on the Liberty ship John Brown in Baltimore, MD. Jack worked part time for Manheim Auto Auction for 14 years. While in the Lebanon area he was a member of B.P.O. Elks #631 as deputy representative to the VA Hospital, Lebanon Valley Nation Bank Agriculture Advisory board, and was on the 4-H Board of Directors, Leader, and chairman of the 4-H Finance Committee. Jack started the 4-H auction at Lebanon Fair to benefit 4-H members. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce Farm City Week committee, chairman of Farmer's Tour Business, member of the advisory board for Cedar Crest High School Vo-Ag and honorary chapter farmer of Cedar Crest Vo-Ag FFA. He also was member of Amvets and lifetime member of the American Legion Post 419 and Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post 5956. Jack enjoyed stock car racing, golf, reading, music and he was an avid Eagles fan.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, William husband of Kathy Neral Reed of , John husband of Diane Justice Reed of , Edward Reed of Elizabethtown, PA , two step-daughters, Delores "Dee" wife of Ronald Forry, Donna wife of Larry Snavely both of , seven grandchildren, Michelle Pollis, Robert, Kim, Jack, Nancy Reed, Beth Lehman, Jill Breneman, and two step grandchildren, Michelle and Matthew Snavely, one great grandchild, Alexis Breneman, and a niece, Dorothy Durchuck Kotowski.
Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery Annville, PA. There will be no viewing. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Saturday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of the service.
